■ JOHN Atherton scored an early goal to help Chasetown beat Spalding United at home.
Chasetown took the lead with their first meaningful attack in the 16th minute. Aaron Ashford chased down a through ball allowing Jack Langston to challenge the keeper Michael Duggan who clawed the ball away but only as far as Atherton. He adjusted quickly to volley home.
Just before the interval, the hosts earned a free kick inches outside the box which Langston curled narrowly over the crossbar.
