CITY of Liverpool fell to a narrow derby defeat to Prescot Cables in a game short on quality and clear-cut chances.
Prescot started the better of the two sides and went ahead when Franny Smith hammered home a well-taken effort from range after 18 minutes.
The Purps went close when a mistake at the back saw Cables keeper Mitch Allen gift Danny Mitchley an opportunity, but the Purps forward’s effort was turned around a post via Allen’s boot.
Mitchley then went close again with a header which cannoned back off the bar.
