JOHN Rooney’s hat-trick helped Macclesfield to an important home win over Ilkeston Town as they rise a position into the division’s play-off places.
The hosts began well, and broke the deadlock six minutes in through Babatunde Owolabi, who buried his effort into the top corner with aplomb.
The visitors equalised a minute after the restart via Thomas Cursons’ fifth goal in eight appearances and new signing Jonathan Wafula headed them into a slender lead eleven minutes later.
