ALEX Cherera scored a stunning 89th-minute volley to send Widnes eight points clear at the top of the table.
Fellow promotion hopefuls Chasetown pushed them all the way and will argue they deserved a point after an excellent performance.
Widnes took the lead in the 18th minute thanks to a Sean Miller penalty.
Chasetown equalised six minutes into the second half when Luke Yates curled a well-taken effort beyond Mark Halstead.
Harry McGee quickly restored Widnes’ lead with a diving header from a corner.
