A goal on either side of the half-time interval ensured this East and West Midlands clash between Loughborough Students and Sutton Coldfield remained even.
In the 31st minute, the first real chance went to Loughborough as Halim Bangura rattled the woodwork with a powerful effort.
The visiting Royals looked to their goalkeeper James Wren to bail them out. He pulled out a superb one-handed save from a powerful Joseph Akinsamni effort in the 42nd minute.
