■ ASHINGTON moved up to 18th with a vital win over Ossett, earned through clinical finishing and a resolute defensive display.
The opening half was even, but the breakthrough came in the 41st minute when John Gilchrist found space inside the box and calmly slotted home.
Ossett pressed hard after the interval in search of an equaliser, but despite creating half-chances they were repeatedly denied by Jack Crook in the 89th min Ashington’s backline.
