BERKHAMSTED lost their 100 per cent home league record to a Jake Newman goal just before half-time for Kempston.
Will Summerfield, Lewis Toomey and Jonathan Lacey all missed good chances for the hosts with Kempston goalkeeper Carl Knox comfortably dealing with anything his way.
The winning goal was against the run of play but Newman finished clinically from just inside the penalty area after collecting a wall pass.
Kempston were determined to hold onto their lead in the second half, though a Berko barrage far from made things easy.
