Magpies Michele was just ‘simply the best’

HOST: Michele Govier

is mourning the untimely death of “simply the best” boardroom host Michele Govier.

Renowned throughout the Dorset circuit for years of service on the hospitality side with AFC and the Magpies, Michele lost her battle with cancer earlier this month at the age of 42.

Tributes have flown in from clubs, officials, players and league representatives for a feisty but warm character who was known for lighting up a room.

Wimborne president Ken Stewart said: “I got to know Michele at AFC Bournemouth, I had been invited along by the directors at and that was when I met her.

“It immediately struck me that she was such a lovely young lady and when she finished at AFC Bournemouth she wanted to come to Wimborne – well, we were absolutely thrilled.

“Michele was in charge of sponsorship, meeting and greeting and many aspects of the hospitality. We called her our hostess with the mostest.

“She always made presentation night special and dressed up to the nines.

“She was kind, considerate and always had a laugh while being strong willed, she could tell you how it was without causing offence.

“I remember how kind she was to the players, too. Our captain, Scott Arnold, cracked heads with another player and ended up with a broken nose, she went with him to the hospital and stayed there until his family arrived, that is a great example of her caring nature.

“We are feeling a great sense of loss at Wimborne, everyone warmed to Michele and she will be sadly missed by us all.

“In the words of Tina Turner, she was simply the best.”
