AN early strike was enough to earn Widnes all three points at Hanley.
The goal came inside six minutes when James Steele’s initial effort was hacked off the line only for Olly Wright to react quickest and slam home the rebound.
Hanley huffed and puffed for an equaliser, but created very few clear-cut chances.
Widnes were denied a second when Wright took aim again into the bottom corner only for Adam Whitehouse to time his dive perfectly after 50 minutes.
