■ ATHERTON moved closer to safety with a gritty point against Stafford.
Experienced winger Matty Bryan capped an excellent first half for the hosts with an exquisite long-range goal, looping the ball perfectly over stopper Cam Belford from distance.
Stripes stopper Sol Honor won his share of the plaudits, producing a fine double save from a penalty, but was eventually beaten by Ackeme Francis-Burrell when crowded out from a corner.
