■ WIDNES missed their chance to extend their lead at the top of the table, losing at home to Atherton.
In an attritional first half, the hosts went close to taking the lead when James Steele couldn’t quite adjust his body enough from Ste Irwin’s cross, shooting wide.
But within moments, Atherton were ahead when Calen Gallagher steamed in from Matty Bryan’s corner to head home unchallenged.
And it was 2-0within two minutes when Scott Bakkor got the better of Louis Isherwood before firing into the far corner.
