■ WELWYN Garden City hit Rayners Lane with an early blast and hung for the three points.
In the tenth minute, Bailey Stevenson converted a cross from Adam Pollock.
Two minutes later the Citizens were awarded a penalty, but Charlie Patmore saved Stevenson’s kick.
In the 16th minute, however, Patmore was beaten again, this time by Evaristo Mendes.
Before the break, Welwyn had a number of chances to extend their advantage, but failed to take them. It was different in the second half as Lane took control.
