Billy Heath returns to the dugout as ambitious Lincoln United turn to proven non-league boss

Lincoln United have appointed vastly experienced Non-League manager Billy Heath, bringing the former FC Halifax Town, Alfreton Town and North Ferriby boss to Ashby Avenue in what the club is calling a major statement of intent.

Billy Heath spent seven years in charge at Alfreton Town before departing earlier this season.

Lincoln United have appointed vastly experienced Non-League manager Billy Heath, bringing the former FC Halifax Town, Alfreton Town and North Ferriby boss to Ashby Avenue in what the club is calling a major statement of intent.

Heath, who famously led North Ferriby to FA Trophy glory at Wembley and promotion to the National League, is also a familiar face to Whites supporters, having played for the club as a centre-back in the 1990s.

Director of Football Dave Frecklington said the club wanted a manager capable of matching Lincoln United’s rapid rise and growing ambition.

“When we earned promotion from Step 5, we were determined not to simply make up the numbers,” he said.

Potential

“Whilst nothing is guaranteed in football, we wanted a manager who will challenge our goals and push our potential.

“Recruitment, standards and drive must match the commitment shown by our volunteers, supporters and board.

“We want everyone to know we are serious about competing at the top end of this league.

“As a club, our recent trajectory has already been phenomenal: multiple cup finals, promotions, Wembley trails, record attendances, and hundreds of new supporters buying into what we are building.

“We want Lincoln to have a non-league club that reflects the ambition of our professional neighbours and a city that thrives on football.

“Without ambition, drive and hard work – what’s the point? So enjoy the ride, and welcome Billy!”

Significant moment

Club Chair, Stuart Reddington, added: “Billy’s appointment marks a significant moment for Lincoln United.

“As a board, we knew we needed a manager with proven quality, leadership, and a consistent record of building successful teams, and Billy brings all of that in abundance.”

“His achievements across non-league football speak volumes, but just as importantly, he understands what it means to represent this club.

“Having worn the shirt himself, he knows the values, expectations and community that define Lincoln United.

“We are ambitious, and we make no apology for it. Our supporters, volunteers and players deserve a club that strives for the highest standards both on and off the pitch.

“Appointing Billy is a statement of intent; a commitment to keep improving, keep progressing and keep moving this club forward.”

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome him back to Ashby Avenue, and I’m confident he will play a major role in shaping the next chapter of our journey.”

The club also confirmed that Frecklington will remain in charge for Saturday’s trip to North Ferriby.

Heath will officially begin work next week alongside incoming assistant manager Mark Carroll.

The Whites sit in 18th place in the Northern Premier League Division One East, just one place above the relegation zone.
