WELSH Premier League champions The New Saints will have to safely navigate San Marino’s Tre Penne if they want to advance in the UEFA Champions League.

The Saints, who secured their fifth Welsh title in a row last term, won both legs of a European tie for the first ever time last year when they defeated B36 Torshavn in the first qualifying round.

The Oswestry-based club, who were seeded, enter at the same stage this year and have been drawn against San Marino league champions Tre Penne.

Tre Penne became the first Sammarinese team to win a game in a European competition by defeating Armenian outfit Shirak three seasons ago and will no doubt provide a stern challenge for the Saints.

The Welsh club have been drawn at home and the first leg will be played at Park Hall on June 28 or 29 with the return leg in San Marino on July 5 or 6.

If the Saints are victorious, they will play Cypriot giants Apoel, who made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League as recently as 2012.
