FC HALIFAX TOWN have sacked long-serving boss Neil Aspin following a tough start to the Vanarama National League season.

Aspin had been with the Shaymen for six seasons, helping the phoenix club rise back to the top tier of Non-League football in 2013.

The part-timers made it into the play-offs in 2013-14 and finished a creditable ninth last season. They have won just once this term, however, leaving them second bottom of the table.

Aspin admitted the ‘pressure was on’ after Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at Guiseley, and the Halifax board this morning took action.

A club statement read: “The decision was sadly and reluctantly taken following a prolonged period of indifferent results stretching back to February 2015.

“That said, the club wishes to place on record sincere thanks to Neil for his contribution to the club’s great success over the last few seasons.

“The board and everyone involved with the club, wish Neil every success in the future. We are sure he will be back in football very quickly.”
