TORQUAY UNITED goalkeeper Dan Lavercombe has signed for League One side Wigan Athletic – but will remain with the Gulls until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old has impressed with his performances for Kevin Nicholson’s side in a difficult season for the Devon club.
The local lad has made excellent progress at Plainmoor and made the number one shirt his own earlier this season.
Torquay agreed an undisclosed fee with Wigan for Lavercombe’s services after a successful trial period and the young stopper will remain with the Gulls until the end of the current National League season.
Wigan boss Gary Caldwell said: “Dan is a young goalkeeper who has lots of potential, he’s impressed us a lot during the short time that he’s been with us.
“He won’t be here straight away because he’ll be going back to Torquay to play games for the rest of the season, but he’s a real find for the future.”
