Aldershot Town sign Eastleigh striker Ross Lafayette on loan

ALDERSHOT TOWN will be hoping new loan signing Ross Lafayette will bring much needed goals after joining from National League rivals Eastleigh.

Before last Saturday’s 3-1 over Chester, the Shots had scored just ten goals in their past 15 matches in the league and FA Cup.

Lafayette has plenty of Non-League experience with the likes of Beaconsfield SYCOB, Chesham United, Barton Rovers, Aylesbury United, Wealdstone, Aylesbury, Burnham and Hemel Hempstead.

His 22 goals helped Welling United to the Conference South title in 2012-13 and he then hit 15 more the season after in Non-League’s top flight.

A move to Luton Town followed but, after struggling to get regular first team action, he signed for Eastleigh. He came off the bench in the Spitfires’ FA Cup defeat at Bolton on Tuesday night.

The 30-year-old, who will be with the Shots for the rest of the season, said: “I haven’t started as much as I’d have liked at Eastleigh but I’m feeling fit and healthy, and have been scoring as a substitute, and am looking forward to helping Aldershot Town move up the table to where we need to be.

“My time at Welling is in the past, this is a new chapter, but if I can continue that kind of scoring rate that will stand me in good stead. That’s what I want to achieve here.

“Eastleigh have played against Aldershot Town three times this year and the team were definitely creating some chances. Fingers crossed, if I can get on the end of them, hopefully I can put them away.”
