Ex-Gillingham coach Steve Lovell appointed Bromley’s assistant manager

BROMLEY boss Neil Smith has brought in former Gillingham coach Steve Lovell as his new assistant manager.

Lovell, 55, had spent the past three seasons with the League One Gills and filled in as caretaker manager when Peter Taylor was sacked in 2014.

The former Crystal Palace and Millwall player, who also won six caps for Wales in the 1980s, arrives at Hayes Lane to assist Smith.

Smith served as former boss Mark Goldberg’s assistant before stepping up to replace him and he signed a two-year deal as manager in April.

He told Bromley’s website: “It is fantastic news to have Steve Lovell join the coaching staff, his experience will be invaluable this season.

“I have known Steve for over 20 years as both player and a coach. I cannot wait to start working with him ahead of pre-season.”

Meanwhile, Mark Hammond will remain as part of the first team coaching staff in addition to his new role as academy director.
