Torquay United considering two “definite offers” for the club

chairman David Phillips has confirmed the club has two “definite offers” on the table.

The Gulls have been struggling financially since lottery winning owner Thea Bristow sold up in the summer of 2015, with a Phillips-led consortium taking over.

United looked close to securing new investment earlier this year but after months of negotiations, Swindon-based Gaming International Ltd's interest came to an end.

The cash-strapped club have been unable to pay for both coach travel and hotels for some away games this term, with boss Kevin Nicholson and his players choosing to drive to games.

The Gulls had been considering an offer from the Torquay United Supporters' Trust, but Phillips says that bid is not one of the two offers they are currently going through.

The chairman revealed in September that the Devon outfit were available for less than a “big detached house” and reckons the deal is a “bargain”.

“There are two definite offers, and possibilities for others,” chief Phillips told BBC Sport.

“Somebody has to move forward and hopefully in the next couple weeks we'll know which way we're going.

“The sooner the better as far as everyone is concerned, these things can drag on and we need it to be done.”
