Devonshire Appeals For Premier League Support

BRAINTREE TOWN boss Alan Devonshire has urged fans of his former club West Ham United to show their support for Non-League Day tomorrow.

Devonshire made over 350 appearances for the Irons between 1976 and 1990 after being plucked from relative obscurity at Non-League side Southall.

He went on to represent England eight times during his time at Upton Park and still has extremely close ties to the Premier League club, despite his focus now being on management in the Skrill Premier.

He’s hoping that fans of West Ham will make the most of the fact their are no Premier League or Championship games and head down to their local Non-League side, wherever that me be.

Speaking to the Irons’ website, Devonshire said: “You will find friendly people, no hassle on the terraces – once inside, they are free to move all around the ground – and two honest teams working hard.

“Supporters will also be able to talk to the players in the bar after the game if they want to, because they are approachable.

“I make sure all my players go in there to mingle with fans until 6pm after every Saturday home game, which you just won’t see in the professional game.”
