Brackley Town have appointed Andy Whing as their new manager following the departure of Gavin Cowan to Shrewsbury Town.
Whing arrives at St James Park with a strong track record at National League level, having previously led Solihull Moors to the National League play-off final in 2024, where they narrowly missed out on promotion after a penalty shootout defeat to Bromley.
During that same season, Whing also guided the Moors to the FA Trophy final at Wembley, yet lost out on penalties once again, this time against Gateshead.
The 40-year-old will begin work immediately and will take charge of his first match this weekend, with Brackley set to host Southend United on Saturday.

Ambitious
Whing said: “I’m delighted to be here at this football club. I’m really looking forward to meeting everybody come Saturday and I think if anyone knows me, I wear my heart on my sleeve.
“I’m really passionate, I’m ambitious and I’m really looking forward to getting going and hopefully we can have a winning start on Saturday.”
Whing most recently managed League Two outfit Barrow, but the club sacked him in December after just 11 months in charge, with the Bluebirds hovering near the bottom of the table and winless in their last six matches.
He now joins a Brackley side currently sitting 15th in the National League table, having won promotion last season and currently unbeaten in their last eight league games.

Major appointment
He replaces Cowan, a lifelong Shrewsbury fan, who departed the club to take charge of the EFL side and rescue his club from relegation to Non-League.
The 44-year-old guided the Saints to the fifth tier of English football for the first time in their history.
On Whing’s appointment, Brackley chairman Matt Wise added: “This is a major appointment for the club. Andy has the experience and the attributes to establish the team in the National League and to take the team forward.
“Andy has been appointed after a thorough recruitment process and from a strong field and will take training this week in preparation for Saturday’s home game against Southend United.”
The details of Whing’s contract at St James Park remain undisclosed.
