NON-LEAGUE midfielder Andy Ferrell could be set for a spell behind bars after being charged with conspiracy to supply Class A and Class B drugs.

The 28-year-old, who is currently on the books of Norther League Division One side Bedlington Terriers, is one of 17 people charged in connection with a drugs ring in the North East.

Ferrell started his career at Newcastle United but only ever represented their reserve team before leaving St James’ Park in 2004.

He has since had spells with Watford, Hereford, Kidderminster, York, Barrow and Blyth Spartans.

The Newcastle-born player linked up with Bedlington in July this year and had been playing for them up until his arrest a fortnight ago.
