DORKING FC's future has been secured following the successful recent ‘Save Dorking FC' fundraising campaign.
The club's financial viability had been brought into doubt by delays to the redevelopment of the Chicks' home ground at Meadowbank, with work not set to be completed until the end of the 2017-18 season.
Facing a third season in exile and a groundshare ten miles away at Horley Town, the club launched the ‘Save Dorking FC' campaign in early January to prevent the inevitable shortfall from threatening the club's future.
After a flurry of donations ranging from £10 to £100 on the crowdfunding website adding to money from local businesses – such as Station View Garage and Patrick Gardner & Co Estate Agents – joining a new community interest development fund, the club are now looking ahead to a bright future.
“The response to the campaign has been nothing short of remarkable,” said Dorking chief executive Jason Rabbetts. “We asked the local community if they would help save this grand old lady of Surrey football in its time of need, and the community answered us with a resounding ‘Yes!'.
“From individuals taking part in a successful crowdfunding appeal, to former players and associates of the club over the past 50 years who came forward, and of course the many local businesses who have pledged to support the club over a number of seasons, I would like to say thank you to everyone who has played a part in helping to save Dorking FC.”
It's yet more good news for the Combined Counties League Division One side, who announced a momentous agreement last month that will see them come together with neighbours Dorking Wanderers to grow the game in the local area as well as share grounds.
