SOUTH SHIELDS’ Warren Byrne has gone viral with video of his wonderful volley against Tow Law Town being viewed over 1.5million times across social media.
A Town defender attempted to head the ball clear of danger but instead it went straight to striker Byrne on the edge of the penalty area.
He controlled the ball in mid-air with his right foot before flicking the ball over his own head and unleashing an unstoppable left-footed volley into the right-hand corner of the net.
The video of the 33-year-old factory worker’s wonder strike during Shields’ 3-0 victory in the Northern League Division Two even made it across the pond and featured on FOX Sports in the United States.
Byrne said: “It’s just popped up and I thought ‘I’ll have a go at it’. Fortunately, it’s gone in nicely and it’s definitely up there with the best goals I’ve scored.”
