NORTH West Counties League promotion chasers Colne FC have been given a huge boost after their XLCR Stadium was passed fit for Evo-Stik Northern Premier League football.

Colne are currently second in the Step 5 NWCL Premier but will go above Runcorn Linnets and to the top of the table if they win their game in hand.

Following an inspection earlier this season, the club were informed there were a number of improvements that would have to be made if they wanted promotion.

Thankfully for the Reds, that work has now been done and they will be playing Step 4 football next season if they end up finishing top of the NWCL Premier.

Chairman Shaun O’Neill said: “A special mention must go to vice-chairman and groundsman Richard Harries who has worked tirelessly on and off the pitch to ensure the ground made the grade.

“He’s missed our away games to ensure he could work on the ground without any interruptions. He’s never away from the place, he is a real credit to the club.”
