WEYMOUTH’S friendly at Portland United had to be cut short on Tuesday night – because of a blanket of fog!

The Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Terras were 2-0 up at the time but the match had to be stopped after 63 minutes with fog sweeping in off the south coast making it difficult to see the ball.

It signalled a bizarre end to a mid-July friendly, attended by 337, but a video clip of the conditions posted on Weymouth’s Facebook page has gone viral.

It prompted the club to post: “It appears. the 12 second footage of fog from our visit to Portland Utd on Tuesday night has gone a bit crazy with the stats to the club’s Facebook page.

“Because of the power of social media, this video has been shared left right and centre on pages like ‘Match of the Day’ and therefore at present has been viewed over 190k times! Some of our usual match videos struggle to reach 1k!

“Maybe we need some smoke machines down the Bob Lucas Stadium!”

You can see video footage of the fog below, courtesy of Weymouth FC.
