EXPERIENCED striker Lee Hughes has left Ilkeston after just a month with the Robins, moving up to sign for Worcester City.

Hughes, 39, signed for Ilkeston just before the start of the season and has scored three Evo-Stik NPL Premier goals for Gavin Strachan’s men. He was, however, sent off on his debut against Skelmersdale United.

Worcester have moved to bring in new faces after a poor start left them second bottom of the Vanarama National League North.

They have won just one of their opening seven league games and are hoping Hughes’ experience will help City up the table.

Joint-manager Carl Heeley said: “Lee has been on our radar for the past six months and we feel that it is blatantly obvious to all regular watchers of Worcester City that a main problem area is our threat up front.

“Younger players with potential are an important part of our squad but they will require experienced players around them to help them develop.

“Lee might be 39 but he is in unbelievable shape and loves playing the game, he is also a very bubbly character who will give everyone a huge lift within the changing room.”
