Ebbsfleet United striker Matt Godden seals move to Stevenage

MATT GODDEN has earned a move back into the Football League with Stevenage after two goal laden seasons with Ebbsfleet United.

The 24-year-old striker netted 30 times last term as Ebbsfleet narrowly missed out on the National League South title before losing in the promotion final to Maidstone United.

Godden started his career at Scunthorpe United but failed to make the breakthrough into the first team and spent a number of loan spells in Non-League with the likes of Ilkeston, Gainsborough, Ebbsfleet and Dartford.

He signed permanently for the Fleet in May 2014 and attracted plenty of admirers, scoring 42 times in all competitions over the past two seasons.

League Two side Stevenage have won the race for his signature and Godden told the club’s website: “It’s been going on for a while now so I’m delighted to get it over the line and be back in the Football League.

“I dropped down from Scunthorpe to Ebbsfleet to rejuvenate myself and get regular football. The main aim was to bounce back up and make a name for myself in the Football League.

“I want to continue my form from last season and help Stevenage get out of League Two.”
