KIDLINGTON have started their search for a new manager following the resignation of Martin Wilkinson after a slow start to life at Step 4.

Wilkinson led the Greens to the Hellenic League Premier title last term to achieve the club’s long-term aim of competing at Step 4.

The step up to the Evo-Stik League Southern Central has proved a big one, however, with Kidlington picking up just two points from their opening six games.

The club also suffered a disappointing defeat to North Greenford United in the FA Cup preliminary round and the tough start has led to Wilkinson stepping down as manager.

The 5-0 loss to Beaconsfield SYCOB on Bank Holiday Monday was the final straw for the boss and the Greens will organise a committee meeting to decide on their next move.

A club statement read: “Martin Wilkinson has resigned as Kidlington FC’s first team manager. His management team and squad have been contacted; a committee meeting will convene ASAP.

“Kidlington FC are indebted to “Wilkys” dedication during his time with us, during which he achieved the club’s long term objective to compete at Step 4, the Southern League. The club wishes Martin and his family all the very best in the future.”
