National League South title still up for grabs, says Chelmsford City boss Rod Stringer

CHELMSFORD CITY boss Rod Stringer reckons the National League South title is still up for grabs after their win at Dartford on Saturday.

The Clarets put an end to the Darts’ six-match winning run with their 1-0 victory at Princes Park, pushing them up to the brink of the play-offs.

Stringer’s men are just a point outside the top five but with games in hand over their rivals, Clarets fans will be hopeful of an exciting end to the season.

And their boss isn’t just limiting his aspirations to the play-offs. Chelmsford may be 11 points off leaders Ebbsfleet but, as Maidenhead’s recent collapse has shown, things can change quickly.

Asked if the play-offs were the aim, Stringer told Chelmsford’s website: “I’m going to go one further than that, I think the title is wide open.

“Ebbsfleet United and ourselves have still got to play Maidenhead, while we still have games in hand, which of course we will need to win. But you just never know.

“Dartford got themselves back into contention by going on a terrific run after we’d played them in the FA Trophy. They dug a few results out, but that’s exactly what you have to do to get yourself in there. It’s one of those situation where if you get on a run and keep winning, you never know where it might take you.

“If you can string a run of wins together, 12 to 15 points can take you a long way. This is something we’ve got to look at, we’ve seen Dartford, Ebbsfleet and Maidenhead do it during the season. Now we need to replicate that form ourselves.

“Whatever happens we must make sure we don’t look back at the end of the season with regrets. We need to push on from the win at Princes Park by earning three more points from another difficult game with Concord Rangers this week.”
