JODY BANIM will go it alone as manager of Evo-Stik NPL Premier side Ashton United after his joint-boss Will Haining announced his resignation.

Banim and Haining stepped up to replace Paul Phillips and Steve Halford in September after they opted to take over at National League North side Stalybridge Celtic.

The pair, who were already with Ashton before taking over, have helped to steady the ship and the Robins will finish in mid-table before saying goodbye to Haining after Saturday’s home game against Ilkeston.

Following a long professional career with the likes of Oldham, Morecambe and Macclesfield, Haining has decided to take time away from the game to spend more time with his young family.

Ashton chairman Terry Hollis said: “Will has been absolutely outstanding during his short time as joint-manager, and indeed whilst playing for the club, an absolute pleasure to work with.

“We are extremely sorry to see him leave us but he goes with the very best wishes of everyone connected to Ashton United. His hard work has given us the platform to kick on for the new season.

“We are more than satisfied that Jody has the ability to carry on the role, and he has agreed to continue as manager himself for the foreseeable future. He will be assisted by Simon Woodford in a player/assistant manager capacity.”
