OSSETT TOWN skipper Alex Peterson says his side have no problems with being the underdog as they travel to Scarborough Athletic in the Evo-Stik NPL North play-offs.

The Reds drew 1-1 with play-off hopefuls Trafford on Saturday to finish in fourth place, behind Scarborough only on goal difference.

That means they will visit Scarborough on Tuesday night with the winner going through to Saturday’s final where they will meet either Farsley Celtic – who narrowly missed out on the title – or Colne.

Ossett are currently unbeaten in seven games and will be full of confidence for the play-offs which, Peterson claims, few people outside of the club expected Grant Black’s side to reach.

Peterson told the club’s website: “Scarborough have finished the season on a great run of form and we are fully aware of the task we are up against.

“But we have been the underdog all year and it’s something that motivates us greatly, nobody wanted or expected us to get in the play-offs and we have proved many people wrong.

“We will be doing our very best to do the same on Tuesday as we have done all season against the ‘bigger’ clubs in this league.”

He added: “The commitment and team spirit showed in that (Trafford) game epitomised everything we have done this season and is the reason why have been able to achieve what we have so far in this season.

“And the lads will be carrying all that and more into the next and our biggest game of the season against Scarborough Athletic.”
