Alfreton Town part ways with manager John McDermott

National League North side Alfreton Town and manager John McDermott have parted ways, with the Reds just one point above the drop.
The former Grimsby Town right-back was appointed in May but Saturday’s draw with relegation rivals Darlington marked the end of his reign.
First team coach Chris Millington has also left the club.
Chairman Wayne Bradley said: “I want to thank John and his backroom staff for efforts during their time at Alfreton Town. The season has not shaped the way we wanted it’s been a tough season so far. It makes sense for all to move on.”
“John, Karl and Chris go with our best wishes for the future and it was a decision the club had to make.”

McDermott left his position as director of football at Cleethorpes Town to become Alfreton boss.
As a player he made an all-time record 647 league appearances for Grimsby Town. In total, McDermott played 754 games for the Mariners. He is one of only seventeen players in the history of English football to play over 600 games in the Football League for a single club.
After retiring from football in April 2007, he began coaching at the Grimsby Institute Academy before being appointed assistant manager at Harrogate Town in 2010.
