Torquay United manager Gary Owers has begun his preparations for next season by dismantling much of his squad from this season.
The Seagulls, who were relegated from the National League with one game left to play, have announced that five players will be released from the club, with a further three placed on the transfer list.
In a statement on the club’s official website, it was announced that Reece Mitchell, Conrad Balatoni, Sam Chaney, Yan Klukowski and Jake Gosling will all leave the club once their contracts expire this summer, while attempts will be made to sell Josh Gowling, Ryan Clarke and Jon-Paul Pittman.
Following their 1-1 draw with Ebbsfleet at Plainmoor on Saturday, the Seagulls finished in a disappointing 22nd place in the National League table but Owers has resisted calls to step down and spoke of his determination to lead the club next season in the National League South.
Following Saturday game, Owers told Devon Live, “If I have to work extra hard to get the supporters back on board, that’s what I will do.
“I am aware of what’s going on around us – I am not blasé.
“I know there are disgruntled supporters, but the only thing I can do is get my head down and build a team that will restore their faith in me.”
As he makes further preparations for next season, Owers has also announced that he has invited over 20 players to a trial day at Plainmoor today.
