The winner of the Football Foundation Community Club of the Year is Lewes

Lewes have enjoyed a superb season both on and off the pitch.
While the first team secured promotion back to Step 3, the club have continued their superb work within the local community.
At the start of the season the Rooks became the first professional or semi-professional football club to give their women’s side the same budget as the men’s team. This fantastic initiative led to the establishment of Equality FC, who continue to break new ground within the women’s game.
By providing Special ticket offers, a 3G facility next to their unique Dripping Pan home, kids’ coaching – regularly attended by first team players – and coaching in schools, Lewes are a club with community at their core.
Ed Briggs, the club’s voluntary director,  said: “It’s a fantastic environment. All ideas are encouraged and we’re trying to get closer to financial stability.
“We launched the Equality FC initiative last year and we’ve got an application in with the FA to go into the women’s Championship, so we’ll find out on May 27 if our women’s team have got in next season, so we’re all excited.

  • Postponed games have disappeared

‘I am The Secret Footballer’ – Dave Kitson ends football’s longest guessing game

For years, football fans played detective. Every new “Secret Footballer” column dropped like a clue. The voice was too inside to be a journalist. Too sharp to be a club statement. Too honest to be anyone with a contract still to protect. Now the guessing is over...

  • July matches could ease a winter backlog

FANS’ FORUM WITH the weather getting wetter and warmer each year, surely something needs to change in the football calendar. Unfortunately, I fear that the leagues and FA are so loathe to change anything as we continue to battle through a backlog of fixtures at the end of each season....
