GLORY DAYS: Whitley Bay celebrate winning the FA Vase at Wembley in 2011

Whitley Bay have axed boss Mick Mulhern after suffering a club-record 9-0 defeat.
The four-time FA Vase winners were humiliated at home by Hebburn Town to leave them third from bottom in the Northern League Division One.
Four goals in seven minutes spell just past the half hour mark left Whitley 6-0 down at the interval. Hebburn added three more in the second half as the hosts also missed a penalty.
Mulhern stepped up from the role of assistant manager in November following the resignation of legendary boss Andy Gowens.
The result saw Whitley drop one place to the bottom three which in previous seasons would have been a relegation position, but with the FA’s reorganisation of leagues at Step 5, the maximum number of teams going down looks likely to be two.
The Bay now have a two-week gap until their next fixture as the search for a new manager gets underway.
