Steve Thompson departs Dorchester Town

Southern Premier South side Dorchester Town have announced the departure of manager Steve Thompson, following the Magpies 0-0 draw at home to fellow strugglers Gosport Borough at the weekend.
The result extended Dorchester’s winless run to four matches and saw the club drop into the relegation zone, just as the season begins to enter its business stage.
Thompson, who has previously coached at Yeovil and Woking and been in the managerial hotseat at Truro City, took the Dorchester job in September 2017 and guided the Dorset based club to a 19th place finish at Step 3 level last season.
Prior to entering management, the former midfielder enjoyed a successful playing career, representing the likes of Wycombe Wanderers and Slough Town.
A statement on Dorchester’s official club website this morning read, “The Board of Directors of Dorchester Town FC have today relieved Steve Thompson of his duties as team manager. With 10 league matches to go to the end of the season, and having dropped into the relegation zone on Saturday, the Board felt that a new manager, with fresh ideas, was necessary in order to gain the points needed to retain the clubs place in Southern League Premier Division South.
“The club is grateful to Steve for the contribution he has made to the club over the last 18 months and wish him well for the future.
“The Board expects to appoint a new manager before the weekends match at Farnborough.”
