Steve McNulty has signed for National League North club York City after leaving Tranmere Rovers and wants to win a seventh promotion.
The experienced centre-back left Rovers following their promotion to League One via the play-offs.
It was his sixth promotion having also won with Barrow, Fleetwood Town and Luton Town in a career that has almost clocked 600 appearances.
McNulty, 35, is Steve Watson’s sixth signing of the summer following the completed deals of Andy Bond, Peter Jameson, Dan Maguire, Kieran Green and Paddy McLaughlin.
“I like his leadership skills and the way he plays football,” said Watson. “He’s an absolute leader at the back which is what every club needs. His record speaks for itself and his credentials are fantastic.
“Thats pretty much the icing on the cake of the squad now – and I am really happy with what we are going to start with on Monday.”
McNulty added: “We have been brought in for a reason – to get York back where they belong. I have been fortunate to play for some good clubs and get success and I want to carry that on.
“You are never too old or too wise to learn. You play for all kinds of different managers – and you are not going to agree with everything – but I will be picking his mind and picking things up.
“When I do stop playing in a couple of years, I want to got into management. I am in the process of finishing my ‘B’ licence but I still want to carry on (playing) for two or three more years – and I still think I have got a couple more promotions in me yet!”
