Riz Rehman is determined to make an impact in his new role as Chair of the Inclusion Advisory Group at the Surrey FA.
Riz, who was a member of the Brentford academy before suffering a career ending injury at the age of 21, has previously played a key role in promoting inclusion within the game as part of his duties as an education advisor with the PFA.
He told The NLP: “This is a position that I am immensely proud to have because it is a subject that matters a lot to me and is in my home area.
“I am excited to make a real difference in this role and help to move things forward because we still have such a long way to go.”
During his playing days Rehman admits that he suffered occasional racial abuse and he is now determined to do all that he can to ensure that people from all backgrounds can feel welcome within the game.
“We need to make sure that there is much better representation across all areas of the sport,” he added.
“Players are still dropping out and we need to act quickly to stop it from happening at all because at the end of the day football should be something that everyone can enjoy
“There are lots of things that we can do. For example, we need to make sure that more people receive a certain level of training in in how to improve inclusion levels.
“We have a big task ahead of us but if we all collaborate together we can achieve great thing.”
