Trevor Newman has stood down at the Eastern Counties League’s basement side Walsham-Le-Willows after their seventh league defeat of the season.
Newman resigned on Thursday following his side’s 3-2 home reverse in the Premier Division on Wednesday night at the hands of Thetford Town.
It was only a second win in 12 league outings for fellow strugglers Thetford under newly appointed boss Matt Morton. With a single win so far this term, the result looks to have triggered Newman’s exit after it sent the Willows to the bottom of the table.
After stepping up from assistant manager at Summers Lane to succeed Paul Smith in August 2018 after his reign ended after 18 years at the helm, Newman guided the Willows to a ninth placed finish last term.
The Willows host Long Melford on Saturday as the club released a statement thanking Nunn and advertising for potential successors to come forward with two trips to Whitton on the bounce in the league and Suffolk Premier Cup quickly following.
The club statement read: “We would like to put on record our thanks and appreciation for his hard work and dedication over the last two seasons, especially the excellent season we had last year with one of our best finishes in the Thurlow Nunn Premier league for the club.
“We now invite applications for the manager’s position to be made initially to chairman Keith Mills on [email protected].”
Suffolk FA affiliated Step 5 Walsham-Le-Willows were founded in 1890.
