Ex-Colchester captain Kemal Izzet is Brightlingsea Regent’s new boss

Colchester United’s promotion-winning former captain Kemal Izzet is the new boss of Brightlingsea Regent.
The 39-year-old was unveiled as the successor to Tom Rothery at the Isthmian League Premier Division’s R’s on Tuesday night.
Appointed in October 2017, Rothery stood down at the end of September with the R’s sitting in 16th spot with eight points from two wins and two draw – check out new betting sites if you think they can turn things around.
Izzet, pictured alongside R’s chairman Terry Doherty following his appointment, made more than 400 appearances for the Us, as well as captaining the club to promotion to the Championship in 2006.
He got his first taste of management at Essex Senior League Stanway Rovers manager in 2017.
The midfielder, who also played for Needham Market, went on to become John Coventry’s first team coach at East Thurrock United. Last term he helped the Rocks to Essex Senior Cup glory.

Welcome

Doherty welcomed Izzet to North Road in a statement on the club’s website.
He said: “We are delighted to welcome Kem to the Regent. He’s a well qualified young coach, who is ambitious and driven, which is a perfect fit for the Regent.
“He has experience of step three, having played at the level when at Needham Market. Therefore he knows what it takes to perform at this level.”
Doherty added: “Kem has good contacts in Non-League and the pro game which will help when it comes to recruitment.
“I’m excited for the future, looking forward to seeing Kem settle in at the Taydal Stadium and driving the team back up the table.”
Izzet kicks-off his reign with Saturday’s trip to Worthing and follows that Potters Bar Town away n Tuesday.
Pip Boyland is set to continue as the club’s assistant manager. The duo will take charge of their first home game when Royston Town arrive in the FA Trophy next Saturday.
