WELLING UNITED made the most of their numerical advantage against Braintree Town.
There were few goalmouth chances in the first half with neither goalkeeper called upon to make a save, but there was an intriguing midfield battle with some heavy tackles flying in.
Iron defender Ricky Gabriel saw the red mist on 28 minutes when he grabbed Callum Driver by the neck to earn himself a straight red card.
Braintree responded by replacing an attacking midfielder Roman Michael-Percil with defender Ben Wyatt and lost all their forward threat.
