LEATHERHEAD denied Hornchurch the chance to go second with this narrow win over the Essex outfit.
Tommy Wood and Ibrahim Olutade put the Tanners in control at the break. But Charlie Stimson made it 2-1 on 50 minutes.
And the Urchins were only denied more goals by Tanners keeper Zaki Qualah.
Wood opened the scoring on 31 minutes when he blasted the ball home after Charlie Hester- Cook’s effort was blocked for a corner.
On the stroke of halftime, goalscorer Wood turned provider when his run and cross set up Olutade to make it 2-0.
