Southern Combination clubs vote to play five supplementary cups next month

Sixteen out of 20 Premier Division clubs and 13 out of 16 in Division One have agreed to take part

SOUTHERN Combination clubs have voted overwhelmingly to play five supplementary cups next month – even though Government guidelines will not permit paying spectators.

Sixteen out of 20 Premier Division clubs and 13 out of 16 in Division One have agreed to take part.

“I think that they are all desperate to play football,” said Combination secretary Tim Dawes. “The only ones who did not want to enter were clubs with pitch issues.”

The competitions for the senior trophies, the Premier Shield and the Division One Shield, will both kick off on April 10.

There will also be a Division Two Shield (starting April 3), an Under 23s Shield (starting midweek commencing April 5) and an Under 18s Shield (starting Sunday April 4).

Each cup will start on a mini-league basis with semi finals between group winners to be played from the week commencing May 3.

The finals will be played at neutral grounds from May 17.
