Shirt switch

SUNDAY League club Grenfell Athletic are encouraging locals to be the first to pull on their brand-new jersey via a shirt amnesty taking place this afternoon.

Founded shortly after the Grenfell Town fire in North Kensington in 2017, which saw 72 people lose their lives, the club was created as a community hub to create a positive outlet for those affected by the tragedy.

SMART WORK: The new Grenfell Athletic jersey

After the success of their previous shirt launch, the club, who play in the Middlesex County League, have fused their dragon symbol with the iconic Nike swoosh for a fresh new home kit for the new season that will be available to purchase via Kit Locker.

However, local fans can obtain a shirt first. All they need to do is bring any old football jersey they own to Westway Sports Centre between 1-5pm, with the first 99 in attendance able to recycle their old football jersey, receiving in return a brand-new limited-edition Grenfell Athletic home jersey for the 2021-22 season. The amnesty will see the club’s #FabricOfTheCommunity mantra brought to life.

Grenfell Athletic founder Rupert Taylor said: “The launch of the brand-new Grenfell Athletic home jersey represents another exciting step forward for the club.

“Although the current season has just ended, the team is already looking forward to pulling on the new kit for 21-22.

“We’re super-excited to be able to give 99 people from the local area the chance to get their hands on their very own shirt. After all, community is at the heart of this club.”

The club have also launched their own TV ad, with a film created to support the team and the wider Grenfell community.

It shows the threads of a Grenfell Athletic shirt being interwoven into the fabric of buildings and ends with the entire Grenfell estate covered in the jersey.

All proceeds from shirt sales will be put back into the development of the club.
