York City get big Beck booster

The 27-year-old has joined until January and, at 6ft 5ins, will give the Minstermen a greater aerial threat.

York City

YORK City manager Steve Watson admitted he was ‘thrilled’ to have captured towering striker Mark Beck on loan from Harrogate Town.

The 27-year-old has joined until January and, at 6ft 5ins, will give the Minstermen a greater aerial threat.

Former Newcastle and Everton defender Watson said: “We had to be patient and kept off a few other things while we had a chance of this and now it’s finally over the line, we are thrilled about it.

“He is a very good target man, but he is more than that – he is good with his feet, he’s a leader, he’s strong, he attacks the ball in the box.”

Ex-Carlisle and Darlington forward Beck is eager to get started.

“It feels very good to get it over the line and it’s good to be here – I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “The manager at Harrogate (Simon Weaver) said a couple of weeks ago that he wants me to go out and get some games. It’s obviously a massive club and I was interested straight away.”
