Jake Mackenzie forced teenage keeper Leo Anderson to make an important save as Whitstable started to up the tempo, but Anderson and his defenders looked in command until the home side were awarded a penalty on the hour.
Harry Goodger, who had hardly troubled the defiant Tadley Bromage all afternoon, converted from the spot, and sub Muhammad Cham brought another fine save from Anderson.
