Spennymoor Town confirm departure of manager Tommy Miller

National League North club Spennymoor Town have parted company with manager Tommy Miller and assistant manager Stuart Parnaby.

The former Ipswich Town and Hartlepool United midfielder was named as successor to club legend Jason Ainsley earlier this year – but his reign came to an end with a 2-0 defeat at Gloucester City on Saturday.

The defeat at New Meadow Park saw the Moors extend their run without a win to an eighth league game as they slid to thirteenth place in the National League North table.

They still remain just three points shy of the play-off places although the likes of Southport, York City and Curzon Ashton all hold at least one game in hand over the Brewery Park side.

A statement released on Sunday lunchtime confirmed Miller and assistant Stuart Parnaby had departed and club legend Jason Ainsley will take over on an interim basis.

In the statement, Moors Managing Director Tony Wilson said: “Firstly, I’d like to thank Tommy for his years of dedication and hard work for the club.

“He has been a tireless servant, demanding the very best of himself and his players at all times.

“It’s clear to everyone that the current form of the team falls short of the performance levels required to meet our strategic goals.

“This position is unfamiliar for Spennymoor Town, as we’ve enjoyed constant progress for the last decade.  Despite our form, we are still in touch with the play-offs positions, so I think it’s important to remember this and keep the current situation in perspective.

“For these reasons, we have all been adult enough to recognise that now is the time that a change is required and have acted on this.

“We wish Tommy and Stuart all the very best for the future.”
