■ IN a scrappy encounter, North Shields deservedly came out on top. Grantham began brightly with Harry Wood bringing the first save from Shields keeper Finn Hodgson. Grantham continued to press, but Shields took the lead after 20 minutes when Dan Turner cut in to score off the far post.
Matt Tootle went close for Grantham on two occasions, but Shiels finished the half strongly.
Shields had the better of the second half with Regan Paterson going close.
