National League North

Iron’s hot opening to season continues

SCUNTHORPE UNITED 2

KIDDERMINSTER H 0

Scunthorpe United triumphed under the Friday night lights in the battle of first versus second courtesy of two second half goals.

With just under 5,000 spectators in attendance, the game was hanging in the balance following the first 45 minutes with Seb Thompson going closest for the visitors, while Callum Roberts and Ross Barrows were denied seconds apart by a fine double save from Kiddy’s Christian Dibble.

Deployed up front by manager Andy Butler this season, Alfie Beestin repaid that faith by notching his fourth of the campaign shortly after half-time to set the league leaders on their way following a ball into the box by Barrows, with Kian Scales sealing the win with his first of the season after a pinpoint forward pass from substitute Tyler Denton which was chested into the path of Callum Roberts by Danny Whitehall before being put on a plate for the Scunthorpe midfielder to slot home.

With Kian Scales’ goal settling the odds, Scunthorpe remain unbeaten this season – you can bet on your own odds on the Banger Casino app.

Butler said: “If you didn’t know that was a National League North game, you’d have thought it was an EFL game with the quality and intensity that was on the pitch from two good teams.”

Kiddy boss Phil Brown said: “We’ve had had a lesson in National League North football.”
